The best legal upgrade for your 9007 headlights
By Charlie
Most, if not all, vehicles are equipped with Long Life 9007 bulbs from the factory. Long Life ordinarily means the bulbs were designed with filaments and gas mixtures designed to extend the duration at which the light output remains usable, up to approximately 800-1300 hours in a laboratory environment. This is in comparison to 2500-5000 hours from HID capsules (D1/D2/D3/D4) which cost $100-$250 per capsule to replace. In addition, white LED headlights/foglights last approximately 25,000 to 50,000 hours.
Sylvania does not keep it a mystery that their SilverStar and SilverStar Ultra line of headlights are not designed for longevity. According to Sylvania for their 9007s, their SilverStar lasts 150 hours, the SilverStar Ultra lasts 200 hours, while the XtraVision lasts 375 hours. The 9008/H13 usual bulb may go up to 1000 hours, while the Sylvania SilverStar 9008/H13 is rated at only 325 hours and the 9008/H13 XtraVision is rated for 500 hours.
In the SilverStars, the gas mixture and filaments were designed to remunerate for the loss of light transmission from the filter (tint) on the bulb glass. The SilverStars are fundamentally “ricer” bulbs designed to make the color temperature appear near 4000K (HID white) but this costs you lifespan.
From experience, the XtraVisions will last at least 3-4 years of normal use (about 30 minutes each workday). Daytime Running Lights and automatic headlights SEVERELY reduce bulb lifetime because they keep the bulbs running at full voltage whenever you use the car contrary to popular belief. In addition, headlight bulbs are ranked at 12.8 VDC, which means that the rated hours were received from testing at 12.8 VDC. Running the bulbs at a higher voltage, like the 14.0 VDC that most charging schemes produce, will dramatically reduce bulb life. So this is not a surprise that SilverStar owners are getting 3-6 months of use out of their bulbs.
I have used XtraVisions on 3 dissimilar cars over the past 7 years and have the utmost selfassurance in the lighting power. They are still halogens and construct a 3200K “white”, but there is a DRAMATIC divergence from factory Standard or Long Life 9007s. They make all reflective objects light up, and I may see a bit further down the road. I’ve tested GE Nighthawk 9007s and they develop a somewhat whiter light with with regards to the same light output, so either the XtraVision or GE Nighthawk 9007s are the best halogen upgrade.
The uttermost lighting solution would be a street-legal HID upgrade, which is cost prohibitive for most owners and requires a lot of work to install. The next best thing would be XtraVision bulbs.
Pros: The best bulb upgrade you may get with a decent lifetime (about 800 hours). Totally street legal, and a huge betterment over Standard or LL bulbs. Can be purchased at discount prices.
Cons: Still a 3200K halogen “white” which is yellow equated to HIDs. Confusing syndication causes most people to buy SilverStar / Ultra bulbs instead. The lifetime isn’t closely as good as HID or LED.
Overall: 5/5 stars for what it is: lowpriced upgrade for existent lighting.

A good choice for a more splendid and wider light pattern.
By Kris Ihli
I have applied these on 3 dissimilar cars over the years and will proceed to do so. I like that they do not stress the factory wiring nor need any changes to the headlight housings.
According to the packaging they only last when it comes to 1/2 last as long as the stock headlight bulbs. Well I guess I do not drive that much at night as I have yet to wear out a set.
I do know that I have substituted factory bulbs that were still working after 10 years with these due to the fact that even thought they still worked that they were noticeably dim.
FYI All headlight bulbs become dimmer due to usage as they age. So if you have old / introductory bulbs and want a more magnificent bulb that gives you more distance to the front and sides without spending a lot of cash buy a set of these. They may not last as galore years as the factory ones yet the light pattern is much better and these will last assorted times as long as a good deal of of the other bulbs like the “Silver Stars” and similar bulbs. Also these are “legal” to use. While galore of the other bulbs out there are not “legal” and may harm your wiring and headlight housings.
If you actually wish to make a severe “legal” betterment to your headlights. I would commend upgrading to a relay headlight harness and a set of these bulbs.
Thank you.

I noticed a big difference!
By B. E. Rd
I have read reviews for this product that said that the users did not detect a difference. And while I will admit, I do not recognise how old the lights I substituted were (all usual lights loose candle power as they get older) but, having said that… I love these lights! Where I noticed the biggest divergence is with reflector surfaces like signs and warning markers. Man, these things just jump out at you! And from a big distance away! They were simple to install and fit perfectly. Great price too!
